Closest Metro Stations: Foggy Bottom and Rosslyn, VA

While there isn’t a metro station directly in Georgetown, there are many good alternatives to getting to a Metro station that can get you almost anywhere in D.C. The closest Metro stop from the center of Georgetown is east of Georgetown at the Foggy Bottom Station on George Washington University’s Campus next to the GW Hospital (about a 15 to 20-minute walk). The Rosslyn, Virginia metro station is located at the west end of Georgetown is located across the Key Bridge in Virginia.

DC Circulator

D.C. Circulator buses are fast and reasonably priced. Two D.C. Circulator routes run through Georgetown. The first can be picked up at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street and runs downtown on K Street or to Union Station. If you’re going to Rosslyn or Dupont, you can also pick up a Circulator bus on M Street, just make sure the bus destination display is where you want to go! At only $1 a ride, the D.C. Circulator is affordable, and it navigates along six routes designed for easy-on, easy-off access at points of interest throughout the city such as Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Woodley Park, U Street, and Capitol Hill. The D.C. Circulator also connects to the National Mall route, which gives you easy access to Washington’s monuments and memorials.

Metrobus and MetroRail

The DC Metrobus provides more than 400,000 trips each weekday serving 11,500 bus stops in and around Washington, D.C.  For information on bus routes, schedules, and fares, or to plan your trip, about click on this link.

Washington, DC’s Metro is one of the busiest public transportation systems in the country. It connects all four quadrants of DC with suburban Virginia and Maryland. “Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle or “GUTS Bus”

There are also a variety of buses that crisscross Georgetown. The GUTS buses were created for students and facility of Georgetown University, but today, everyone uses them. You can also reach a Metro stop by taking a GUTS bus to either Rosslyn or DuPont Circle and pick up a Metro stop there. Dupont is the Red Line, and Rosslyn is the Orange line. Biking Around Georgetown

If you’d rather get some exercise, check out Capital Bikeshare. There over 175 kiosks around the city and four in Georgetown where you can “borrow” a bike. Capital Bikeshare has annual, monthly, three-day or daily passes that you can buy. The D.C. weather is very conducive to biking with very few cold days in January and February.
